Floodwater in New Orleans seriously contaminated
Pictures taken on September 7 showed piles of garbage floating on the water in New Orleans streets, the water itself having turned black and stinking. Local waters have been severely polluted since they contain oil, chemicals, human and animal waste, huge amounts of rubbish, as well as many uncollected bodies. Lab tests indicted a bacterium level much higher than allowed. By now three people are feared dead due to polluted water in hurricane ravaged areas. (Xinhua photos)

China's first cross-border oil pipe
China-Kazakhstan oil pipe in final construction. Sept.2, welding has been finished along the 370 -km section built by China.The Atasu-Alashankou oil pipe line has now entered into the final stage. As part of China's first cross-border oil pipe China-Kazakhstan oil pipe, the project broke ground in September last year.3000 Chinese and Kazakhstan workers are working along the 1,000 -kilometer site. The project will be completed in December this year. China and Kazakhstan reached a deal on a oil pipe program in 1997 which would stretch 3,000 kilometers from Alataw by the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan to the Alashankou Pass in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. Zhongguancun IT Festival kicks off
This is the Kodak's booth at the 8th Zhongguancun IT Festival which was inaugurated on Sept.7 at China's "silicon valley" in Beijing. The theme of the 6-day annual event is defined as "creative, harmonious, excellent". Mr. Tan Weike, secretary of Haidian District CPC Committee, has pledged to make Zhongguancun the center for electronic products trading and base for the creative industry at national-level in 3 to 5 years. President Hu kicks off visit to Canada
Chinese President Hu Jintao (C, front) arrives in the Canadian capital of Ottawa Sept. 8, 2005. Hu Jintao arrived in Ottawa Thursday for a state visit aimed at promoting the all-round partnership of cooperation between China and Canada. China crowned 10th straight Asian Champs title
World Cup and Olympic champions China beat Kazakhstan three sets to love in the final to win their tenth consecutive title at the Asian women's volleyball championship. China, who won the champion in 1979 and all since 1987, have been on the top of the Asian podium for the eleventh time.

Chinese relief goods arrive in US
Journalists cover the arrival of relief aid from China to the United States for victims of Hurricane Katrina at the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas of the United States on Sept. 7, 2005. The relief goods, weighing 104 tons, included light power generators, tents, bedsheets and clothes, etc. China announced last Saturday that it had decided to offer disaster relief up to 5 million US dollars along with emergency supplies to the US people victimized by Hurricane Katrina, and that if necessary the Chinese government would send rescue workers to help in medical treatment and epidemic prevention in the disaster-stricken areas.
