US officer beating Chinese citizen sentenced not guilty
font size

US immigration official Robert Rhodes charged of beating Chinese citizen Zhao Yan was pronounced not guilty of violating the civil right of the Chinese businesswoman in Buffalo on Sep 8.

The attorney for Zhao Yan was not satisfactory with the verdict. He held that the jury partially believed that Rhodes did his job strictly for the purpose of anti-terror. However, the attorney held that the verdict of not guilty was only a part of criminal procedure, which would not affect the civil lawsuit in which Zhao Yan demanded a compensation of 10 million US dollars.

Zhao Yan was quite disappointed when she heard that Rhodes was sentenced not guilty, said her attorney. Zhao has stated all she had known in court and she declined to face the camera.
