China, Hungary pledge to further bilateral ties

China and Hungary on Thursday pledged to boost political, economic and cultural cooperation to enhance bilateral ties.

During an hour-long talk with Hungarian Prime Minister Gyurcsany Ferenc, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said he hopes the two countries will improve political exchanges to deepen their friendly cooperative partnership.

He suggested the two countries implement the principles drawn down in the joint statement signed last year, maintaining high-level contacts and enhancing consultations on key international and regional issues.

In the economic sector, he urged the two countries to deepen cooperation in trade and investment.

He said China will take efforts to promote trade between the two countries and China welcomes and supports Hungarian companies to expand businesses in China.

"The business sectors of the two countries should improve contact and communication to jointly seek for pragmatic results through cooperation," Wen said.

He also urged the two countries to improve exchanges in culture, education and tourism to enforce the foundation for bilateral friendly cooperative partnership.

On the Taiwan issue, Wen said the issue concerns China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and it is also the political foundation to develop bilateral ties.

Wen said China appreciates the Hungarian government's consistent and firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's efforts in realizing national reunification.

"I believe we will continue to have Hungary's understanding and support on the issue," he said.

In response, Gyurcsany said no matter how the Hungarian government changes, its adherence to the one-China policy will not change.

He said China enjoys great potential for development and its growth will have a positive impact on the world.

The Hungarian Prime Minister said Hungary's development is closely connected with China and to promote Hungary-China relations will continue to remain an important task for his government.

Gyurcsany suggested the two countries improve cooperation in the fields of economy, finance, infrastructure construction, health, telecommunications and cultural exchanges.

Gyurcsany arrived in Beijing Thursday morning for a two-day working visit.
