Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong met with principal administrative, legislative and judiciary officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Zeng extended greetings to the officials on behalf of President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
He said Hong Kong has traversed an extraordinary path and withstood all kinds of tests, including the Asian financial crisis, the recess of the global economy and the outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, over the past eight years since its return to the motherland.
"We are now happy to see the all too positive and energetic scene in Hong Kong, as the economy is rejuvenating, the people's livelihood is improving, the social order stabilized and the residents' confidence boosting," the vice president said.
Zeng said the uneasy task was carried out jointly by all Hong Kong compatriots and the officials present, with the support and assistance from the Central Government.
Zeng said he believes that the officials present would fulfill their duties, commit to their obligations, unite and cooperate to do well their work, and perform their duties according to the Basic Law and Hong Kong's relative laws, so as to maintain a prosperous and stable Hong Kong.
Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, said all principal officials will boost their efforts to implement the people-based policy.
