The Malaysian authorities concerned has suspended the services of 87 clinics and 37 X-ray centers in the country, noting these medical units breached the operating standards.
According to Malaysia's official news agency Bernama on Sunday, 20 clinics and eight X-ray centers among these medical units suspended by Fomema, an agency for monitoring health of foreign workers, were in Malaysia's eastern state of Sabah.
Officials of the Sabah local government said that health surveillance on legal foreign workers last year had found 25,081 foreign workers unhealthy, including 4,619 in Sabah.
Of the total, 12,550 had Hepatitis, 3,075 tuberculosis and 2, 110 sexually transmitted diseases, they said, adding that 70 percent of the foreigners were tested for the first time after staying in Malaysia for a year.
The Malaysian government had made it compulsory for foreign workers to be examined as soon as they arrived in Sabah, beginning On Aug. 1, in a bid to prevent these people from bringing in epidemic diseases into Malaysia, they stressed.
