A Palestinian man was shot dead Monday by Egyptian border forces at the Egypt-Gaza border, witnesses said.
Nafez Attiyeh, 34, was shot dead in the head and another man wounded, medics said.
The incident happened when the Egyptian border police were trying to rein in chaos as crowds swarmed the Rafah border crossing in southern Gaza, witnesses said.
Israel just completed its last withdrawal from the coastal strip early Monday, ending its 38-year occupation of the Gaza Strip, which, together with the West Bank, was captured in the 1967 Middle East war.
The Gaza streets were awash with jubilant Palestinians, who celebrated the withdrawal of the Israeli army.
Israel evacuated some 9,000 settlers from all 21 settlements in Gaza and four in the northern West Bank in August.
