ROK media warn against Koizumi regime's right deviation
font size

Media in the Republic of Korea issued editorials and comments on Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's triumph in Sunday's general election, saying that Koizumi's regime will be more ring-wing in diplomacy by following the United States to expand its army, revising the country's current pacifist constitution, and preaching nationalism wildly. The results will inevitably end in destroying the Northeast Asian situation and further deteriorate the relations between the Republic of Korea and Japan and that between China and Japan. So it is a must to redouble vigilance.

South Korean Joong-Ang Ilbo said in its editorial that the general election directed by Koizumi has broken away from conceptual and route controversies, and become only a "image'' contest. The editorial continued to say that in this election, traditional Japanese parties' politics are obliterated, and instead, Koizumi's influence is extremely expanded. The Liberal Democratic Party will become the "party of Koizumi''.
