The meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and President of the United States George W. Bush at the United Nations will be a very important meeting at a very important period for the relations of the two countries, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang on September 13 at a regular briefing.
Qin said, China and the United States are both influential countries in the world. Despite some differences, the two countries have broad and important common interests. It has been proved that maintaining the stable and sound development of Sino-US relations will not only serve the fundamental interests of both sides, but will also be conducive to the regional and world stability and development.
China is willing to, together with the United States, judge and handle Sino-US relations from a strategic, long-term perspective, respect each other, seek common grounds while reserving differences, strengthen dialog and cooperation and give consideration to concerns of each other so as to push forward the sound development of Sino-US constructive cooperative relations.
Qin said, China and the United States have common interests and common concerns on a variety of issues, therefore a wide range of topics, including bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation, will be covered in the meeting between the top leaders of the two countries.
