The elegant scenes of civilian residences in the style of Ming and Qing dynasties located at the Three Gorges area are on display at Mount Fenghuang in Ziqui County.

Recently Zigui County in Hubei Province offered a cultural tourism project to demonstrate folk life scenes of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the Three Gorges area for the purpose of connecting historical relics to modern life. It is aimed at making use of the cultural value of ground cultural relics, such as ancient civilian residences, after relocation and reconstruction.

This cultural tourism project indicates that before the water storage of the Three Gorges project, the relevant state departments have established ground protection sites in order to relocate and reconstruct cultural relics at Mount Fenghuang in Zigui County, one kilometer away from the upper reaches of the Three Gorges dam. More than 20 ancient buildings that would have been flooded, including the Jiangdu Temple, ancient civilian residences, the ancient city gate of Guizhou, ancient memorial archways and post roads, have been completely moved to Mount Fenghuang.

The relics have been relocated and rebuilt in accordance with their original style. Original building materials have been used to reconstruct the relics. The rebuilt relics at Mount Fenghuang, top in the Three Gorges reservoir area in terms of quantities, scale and density level, are known as the "rebuilt museum of ground cultural relics in China''. Through out years of construction, the protection site at Mount Fenghuang has taken a renewed shape. More than 20 ancient folk residences and bridges have been constructed.
