1,300 Chinese actively participate in UN peacekeeping mission

An official with the Ministry of National Defense said on Sep 13, 2005 that the first batch of Chinese peacekeeping troop has arrived in Sudan, bringing the total number of Chinese military personnel taking part in UN peacekeeping mission to 1,300.

Since 1990, China has accumulatively sent some 4,000 peacekeeping military personnel to 14 UN peacekeeping missions, including some 3,000 taking parting in peacekeeping elements and some 900 military observers and army officers.

It is reported that two army officers and four soldiers have been killed on duty since China joined the UN peacekeeping mission.
