Two suicide car bombers struck a US military convoy and an Iraqi police patrol in separate attacks in western Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.
"The first suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into a US military convoy near Amriyah intersection and blew it up, causing undetermined casualties," an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
"The second suicide car bomber struck a police patrol when it rushed to the scene of the first blast, wounding two policemen," the source added.
A US Humvee was ablaze in the blast which is followed by gunfire, Muhammed Salim, a witness, told Xinhua.
Meanwhile, the al-Qaida wing in Iraq claimed responsibility for a series of car bombings in Baghdad on Wednesday in revenge for the joint US-Iraq military offensive against insurgents in the northern restive town of Tal Afar, according to an Internet statement.
