According to the Ministry of Commerce, China's foreign trade of hi-tech products totaled 249.9 billion USD for the first eight months of this year, up 26.1 percent over the same period of last year.
The 120.4 billion USD of imports and 129.5 USD of exports reflected an increase of 19.6 percent and 32.9 percent respectively. 27.2 percent of the country's total exports came from hi-tech orders.
An official with the Scientific and Technological Department and Trade in Technology, Ministry of Commerce, highlighted the following four characteristics of China's hi-tech foreign trade over the first eight months in 2005.
Hi-tech foreign trade reached 36.55 billion USD in August and imports registered 17.95 billion USD, both were record high for a single month. The upward movement was 31.7 percent and 27.3 percent respectively. The hi-tech exports in August valued 18.6 billion USD, surging 36.2 percent.
The aggregate rise of foreign trade and of imports of hi-tech products remained well above the increase of the total foreign trade --- by 2.6 and 4.7 percentage points respectively.
China enjoyed more than 9 billion USD of trade surplus from Jan.-August.
Important hi-tech exports continued upturn both for volume and price.
