Despite the enemies' attempt on destroying the election, Afghanistan has prepared to safeguard the security of the coming parliamentary election, Afghan Interior Minister said Thursday.
"There are two safety belts to safeguard the election, the first and the core belt is conducted by Afghan police and the Rapid Reaction Force, and the second is by Afghan National Army ( ANA), ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) and US-led Coalition forces. These two safety belts will defend the election," Ali Ahmad Jalali told journalists in a press conference here.
"About 100,000 Afghan troops have been deployed to all the provinces to safeguard the security of the election, 55,000 of whom are Afghan police, 28,000 are ANA, and the 17,000 are from different security departments," Jalali said.
"ISAF and US-led Coalition forces have also sent more troops to secure the election," he added.
The minister said the enemies of Afghanistan want to scare the people by making explosion and terrorist attacks, but Afghan government has successfully foiled about 100 plots of attacks or explosions during the past one month.
"Afghan people will not be scared by the enemies, and according to our survey, 70 percent of the people killed in the past several months are enemies. We have also captured many Taliban or militants, many of them were attracted by money, and most of them are foreigners especially Pakistanis," Ali Ahmad Jalali said.
Even after the election, the safeguard work by Afghan police will not stop.
"The safeguard work will continue after the election, during the delivery of the ballots, the counting work and for the security of the candidates who win the election," Jalali said.
The minister's remarks came amid the tight security situation in Afghanistan. Taliban, who vowed to derail the election, has intensified the attack against candidates and foreign troops. More than 1,200 people including Afghan civilians, candidates, foreign troops and Taliban militants have been killed during the past six months.
The first-ever parliamentary election of Afghanistan will take place on September 18, during which the members of the 249-seated Wolesi Jirga or Lower House and the Provincial Council will be elected.
