font size

Chinese President Hu Jintao met in New York Thursday with Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson to exchange views on bilateral relations and reforms of the United Nations.

Hu, who is here attending the summit on the UN's 60th anniversary, spoke positively of the ties between the two countries and said China will work with Sweden to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Agreeing with Hu on the development of the two countries' relations, Persson said Sweden will always adhere to the one-China policy.

Hu said China supports necessary reforms of the United Nations and such reforms should be conducive to improving the United Nations' efficiency and authority and give priority to the growth of developing countries.

The Chinese president said China also supports necessary reforms of the UN Security Council which should be designed to give more representation to developing countries.

Persson said it is imperative to reform the United Nations, and the reform of the UN Security Council is not the only content of the UN reforms.

He said Sweden, as the chair country of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly, will keep close contacts with China in this regard.
