Network building for 3G (third-generation mobile communications) is feasible in China. This is learned at the "3G in China 2005 Global Summit" held in Beijing on Sept.15. Homegrown 3G technology has been tested and shown that TD-SCDMA standard can support basic business operations, including network coverage, communications, visual telephone and short message, with massive network building capacity for 3G, according to the Telecoms Standard Institute of the Chinese Academy of Telecommunications Research, affiliated with the Ministry of Information Industry. TD-SCDMA stands for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access.
The homemade 3G alliance, with Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group as a leading force, has accelerated the commercialization of the 3G standard in the country. By far, six chip producers support the standard, and among them, four have offered chips and provided them with 20 models produced by 14 mobile phone producers.
