China strives for new growth of Sino-French cultural exchanges, CPPCC leader

Li Meng, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said in Beijing Friday that both China and France should summarize their experience in holding China-France Cultural Year, and strive for new growth of cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Li made the remarks at the press briefing summarizing the French Cultural Year in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Li said the China-France Cultural year with a span of nearly two years is a pioneering activity advocated jointly by leaders of both nations, which is based on the China-France all-round strategic partnership.

The cultural year features with a lengthy period with broad spheres of exchanges, superb programs and in-depth cooperation, raised the enthusiasm of the people of one nation towards the culture of another nation, he said.

Li noted the great success of this activity aroused enthusiastic response in both China and France and promoted the understanding and friendship between their people, adding it also embodied the value of the precious national cultures of both nations as well as their confidence, which will play a demonstrating and leading role in advocating diversity of cultures in the world.

Besides, Li referred to the China-France Cultural Year as a major cultural exchange activity between two outstanding representatives of the Oriental and Western cultures, will prove to the world that both China and France will work together to promote dialogues between different cultures, deepen understanding, retain the cultural diversity among the world, maintain world peace and promote a common development.

The meaning of the China-France Culture Year has far outstripped itself, and will further prove the vitality of the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership and the resolve of both nations to face up challenges in the present world, Li said.

He also underlined that the China-France all-round strategic partnership is having a good momentum of development with increased political mutual trust, closer economic and trade cooperation and fruitful cultural exchanges. The two countries should continue to contribute to the common development of both sides and the maintenance of world peace with joint efforts, Li said.
