Senior official calls for cultural progress in Inner Mongolia

A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) called for promoting cultural progress to support to the building of a moderately prosperous society during his recent inspection tour of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stressed cultural progress in grassroots in the autonomous region.

He asked local authorities to ensure the construction of local television network and to develop the culture-oriented tourist industry with ethnic characteristics, thus to protect and promote the ethnic culture via economic measures.

During his four-day tour from Sept. 12 to 16, Li visited rural pasturing areas, mines, factories, schools, ports, youth palaces and cultural and publicity work units in the region.
