Chinese vice-president stresses saving energy in popular science activitiesChinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong led a group of senior officials to take part in the activities for the Popular Science Day held in Beijing on Saturday morning. The Popular Science Day, which was founded three years ago, has been fixed on the third public holiday in September every year as of 2005. The activities in Beijing's main venue featured saving resources. The leaders entered the "saving class" when a group of youngsters were intently making solar energy hats. They encouraged them to study science and contribute to the development of a conservation-minded society. After inquiring the development of solar energy in China and looking over relevant productions in the front of the exhibition desk of the Chinese Solar Energy Society, the leaders noted solar energy has an advantage of inexhaustibility and the society should reduce the cost for its wide application. Some methods to save energy in family also attracted the leaders, including adjusting the brightness of television sets to moderateness, frequently washing the filtration web of an air-condition, adding a plastic "portiere" to the refrigerator...
