Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said on Saturday President Hu Jintao's north America tour is fruitful.

Li, who accompanied Hu during the visit, made the remarks in Vancouver, Canada, to the press before Hu's departure for home.

Hu paid a state visit to Canada and Mexico and attended the United Nations summit marking the 60th anniversary of the world body, which brought together over 150 heads of state or government.

During the visit, the president attended over 50 functions and the entire tour is fruitful, said Li.

He said this visit helps promote consensus and cooperation between China and the two countries of Canada and Mexico.

The president also elaborated on the Chinese government's position on major international issues and pushed for the establishment of a just and rational international political and economic new order in a bid to safeguard the just rights and interests of developing countries, Li added.

During the UN summit, Hu met with leaders from 11 countries including the United States, Russia, India, Sweden, Pakistan, the Philippines, Algeria, Zambia, Gabon, Mozambique and Macedonia, said the minister.

The meetings helped enhance communication and mutual trust and promote the further development of bilateral relations between China and these countries, he noted.

President Hu also made clear during this tour China's peaceful development strategy which won extensive understanding and support.

The tour also achieved the expected goal of strengthening dialogue, enhancing mutual trust, and promoting cooperation and common development, said the foreign minister.

Before leaving for Beijing, Hu also visited Ballard Power System Inc, which is a world leader in fuel cell development, and attended a farewell luncheon hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin.

Hu and Martin expressed their willingness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in a bid to promote bilateral strategic partnership.

They also agreed to enhance cooperation in the Asian-Pacific region and continue to make contribution to the development and prosperity of the region.
