ROK chief negotiaor: China's role "outstanding" in six-party talks

China played an "outstanding" role in the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, said chief negotiator of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Song Min-soon.

He said at a press conference here Monday that the common document drafted by China reflects the positions of concerned parties in a balanced way, which has laid a solid foundation for the six-party talks to score further development.

Song said China played a significant role in creating favorable conditions for the talks to make progress, which is "outstanding".

He added that China has demonstrated patience and wisdom to push forward the talks and the ROK delegation appreciates China's efforts.

Song said he admires the wisdom, coordination and courage that the the delegations showed during the negotiation process.

"The six countries are now on the same boat heading to the same designated port and no country should fall back, and even one straggler will get us nowhere", Song said.

He said the the concerned parties will continue their discussion about establishing a peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula and the joint statement lays a foundation for the United States and the Democratic People's Republic Korea (DPRK), and the DPRK and Japan to normalize their relations.

"The statement also opens a door for the DPRK to further involve into the international community", Song said.
