Thai state enterprises unions launch campaign against privatization
font size

Several unions of Thai state enterprises rallied on Tuesday to oppose the privatization of state enterprises.

Over 1,000 representatives of state enterprises unions kicked off a campaign in front of the Democracy Monument in Bangkok to mark the Thai State Enterprise Day Tuesday, the Thai News Agency reported.

The protesters also issued strong messages against privatization.

Thai government's objective is to speed up market capitalization of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, but some anti- privatization organizations consider the action will only leave the state enterprises to fester.

Sirichai Mai-ngam, Secretary-General of the Federation of State Enterprises Unions was quoted as saying that the organization opposes any form of partial privatization of all state enterprises attempted by the government.

The Federation plans to carry their campaign forward by distributing letters in front of the foreign missions, with a view to inform institutional investors from these countries that the approach to privatization is undemocratic, Sirichai said.
