International workshop discusses globalization and trade unionAn international seminar for economic globalization and trade union was held in Shanghai on Sept. 20, reports People's Daily today. Wang Zhaoguo, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC and president of All-China Federation of Trade Unions, stressed in his speech at the conference that China's trade union would strengthen its cooperation with its foreign counterparts to promote world peace and development on the principle of independence and self-initiative, mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and boosting friendship. Wang pointed out that the desire for peace and prosperity was the common wish of the people across the world and the fundamental way of eliminating poverty for mankind. Poverty alleviation, said Wang, quoted by the People's Daily, is the common responsibility of the whole international community and the Chinese government has made positive contributions through persistent efforts. He urged to give trade unions full play in alleviating poverty among workers. Trade unions in various countries, he said, should make consistent efforts on securing world peace, pushing forward the construction of a new order for the international lobar movement, protecting workers' interests, strengthening communication and cooperation to work with the governments and people on the harmonious social and economic development of the world. He called on trade unions around the world to take the real situation and workers' desire into consideration, to participate in the international labors' movement and rules formulation so that labor around the world, especially those in developing countries, can reap the benefits of the global development reasonably and fairly. Mr. Sunmonu, head of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity, gave a speech on behalf of the foreign trade union leaders present at the meeting. Also present at the meeting were representatives and leaders from World Federation of Trade Unions, Brotherhood of Asian Trade Unionists, and trade unions from Latin America, India, South Africa, Mexico and Brazil.
