    Capital Airport begins China's largest airport project construction

    A worker from Beijing Urban Construction Group welds steel space grid at the site of the extension project for Beijing Capital International Airport on Sept. 20. The investment in the project, the largest airport project that China has ever built so far, reached 25 billion yuan, even more than Shanghai Pudong airport plus the new Baiyun airport in Guangdong. The No.3 Terminal of the airport has floor space of more than 900,000 square meter and 99 extra slots. A new runway which is 3,800 m. long and 60 m. wide will also be built. A380, the largest airplane in the world, will be able to take off and land there. By 2015, the Capital Airport will have a throughput of 60 million visits a year, doubling the existing capacity.

    Haier popular in Nairobi

    On Sept.20, a consumer buys Haier mobile phone at a big supermarket in Nairobi. The ads of Haier, a famous Chinese brand for home appliances, has appeared on streets and in supermarkets in the capital city of Kenya. Haier mobiles and TVs are in excessive demand, making a "Haier" surge.

    People evacuate for Hurricane Rita

    "Anti-war mom" urges US troops' withdrawal from Iraq

    American famous "anti-war mom" Cindy Sheehan (R1) holds a press conference at Capitol Hill, urging US Congress and the Bush administration to bring US troops back from Iraq immediately, September 21, 2005. Cindy's son fell on Iraq in 2004. Cindy and her supporters kicked off their "anti-war bus journey" on August 31 and held demonstrations in 51 cities in 28 states on their way. They reached their last stop of Washington on September 21.

    US passenger plane makes forced landing

    Fudan-1 mind robot makes debut

    The first mind-developing robot independently developed by Fudan University - Fudan-1 made debut in Shanghai on September 22. A technician controlls Fudan-1 while it walks by itself. The robot can not only see, listen, speak and walk but also communicate with its "teacher" who trains it through voice, gesture or touch. It was learned that Fudan-1 will be displayed at the celebration of the centennial anniversary of Fudan University's founding.

    Ford Motor Company introduced the brand new Ford Focus at a motor show in Shanghai on Sep 21. Three editions are given this time: 1.8 classic with manual transmission priced at 129,800 yuan; 1.8 fashionable with automated manual transmission priced at 149,800 yuan and luxurious 2.0 with automated manual transmission at 175,800-yuan.
