Chinese and Chinese American professionals in the United States are willing to make contributions to Sino-US friendship and exchanges in the scientific, technological, economic and trade fields, the leader of an American Chinese group said Beijing Thursday.
Yeung Kung Tak, president of the United Council of American Chinese, said at a meeting marking the 10th anniversary of the council's founding that the council has actively participated in activities to oppose Taiwan's independence, promote China's reunification, support Beijing's bid to host the Olympic Games and strengthen Sino-US economic, trade, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges since it was established.
Established in New York in 1995, the council mainly consists of Chinese and Chinese Americans in the scientific, technological, medicine and business communities in the United States.
Yeung said at the meeting, held in the Great Hall of the People, that more than 100 members of the council have made investments in China.
He pledged the council will make further contributions to boosting Sino-US friendly relations and wished China prosperity and peace.
Cheng Siwei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the meeting together with members of the council and representatives of overseas Chinese groups.
