Asian champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro made it to the semifinals of the Indonesia Open badminton tournament after beating Malaysia's veteran Wong Choong Han Friday in Jakarta.
Kuncoro had made a quick comeback after spending four months to recover from a surgery by winning the Asian Championship earlier this month, and here in front of home spectators. He showed his usual attacking play to took an easy 15-3, 15-7 win over the 28-year-old Malaysian.
Sony now leads 4-3 in head-to-head matches with Wong, who also played in the men's doubles in the tournament.
Sony became the only local player to finish in the last four in men's singles after compatriot Simon Santoso lose to Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 16-17, 6-15.
