Tainan City of Taiwan on Saturdaybegan to mark the 2,556th birthday of Confucius, a great ancient Chinese thinker.
The four-day cultural festival held at the Confucian Temple aims to highlight the spirit of Confucius, spread Confucian thoughts and help middle school and primary school students know Confucius, according to Taiwan-based media reports.
The commemoration started with a marching by primary school students around the temple, symbolizing the "path towards school".
Activities such as acknowledging masters of carpentry and catering, exhibitions of cultural relics and lection chanting willalso be held during the event.
The Tainan Confucian Temple was built in 1665, dubbed the firstacademic site of Taiwan.
