Taiwan writer calls on people across Straits to share weal and woe
font size

Famous Taiwan writer and cultural figure Li Ao on Saturday communicated with netizens on-line, saying he wishes people across the Taiwan Straits share weal and woe.

About 3 million people visited the blog and 25,000 others watched the live show of the one-hour chat.

When asked by a netizen his feeling of visiting Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, Li Ao said he sensed an "imposing appearance of a great nation". He was glad to see so much progress Beijing has made.

"I will never forget the terrible feeling in seeing the Japanese soldiers riding horses on Beijing's streets in my childhood," said Li, "the nation is indeed growing stronger today."

Li also visited the Beijing No. 4 Middle School where he used to study and met with his former classmates. "It is a totally different look from my memory," he said. Then he visited the famous Summer Palace.

This is Li's last day in Beijing on his cultural trip. He will leave here for Shanghai on Sunday.
