The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has hosted three seminars on water conservancy for Chinese journalists to improve media's awareness of water resources.
The seminars, held in three major Chinese cities respectively earlier this month, were attended by about 100 journalist from the country's leading media organizations.
Amy Leung, head of Social Sector Unit of the ADB, said the seminars aimed to improve the understanding of water resources issues among the Chinese journalists who are expected to help their readers better understand those issues.
China will probably face the challenge of severe water shortage in the coming years due to water pollution and increasing demand for water from agricultural and industrial sectors, she said.
Among the issues discussed at the seminars were comprehensive water resources management, water pollution, water-related infrastructure projects, water supply and public sanitation.
The seminars were part of the water awareness project launched by the ADB in the past two and a half years across Asia, which was funded by the Deutch Government, a coordinator for the seminar told Xinhua.
Chinese government officials, experts from both home and abroad,water company operators were invited to give presentations on water issues at the seminars.
