Innovation, growth mode shifts necessary for China's further development: senior official
These remarks were made by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, during his inspection tour of Shanghai between Sept. 23 and 25. Wu, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said Shanghai, as a key economic center of China, has made great contributions to the country's economic construction. "Shanghai should seize opportunities and make good use of advantages in talents, technology, capital, location and industry to open up a new prospect in every field," he said. Wu said capability improvement in science and technology innovation should be stressed as a powerful support and dynamic for China in the process of enhancing its competitiveness in the world. "The key to raising the capabilities of science and technology innovation will mainly depend on the change of related systems and mechanism," he said.
