China is ready to work with the Republic of the Congo to further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, Chinese President Hu Jintao said in Beijing Monday.

Hu said when talking with his counterpart of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou-Nguesso that since they forged diplomatic ties 41 years ago, the two countries have enjoyed smooth development of bilateral relations, with frequent high-level visits, increasing mutual understanding, rapid growth of bilateral trade volume and sound cooperation in important international and regional affairs.

China appreciates the Republic of the Congo for adhering to one-China policy and for supporting China in the issues concerning Taiwan and human rights, Hu said, noting that the Chinese government supports the Republic of the Congo's efforts to safeguard national stability and to develop domestic economy.

Hu hoped that in politics, China and the Republic of the Congo will maintain the momentum of high-level visits and increase dialogue and exchanges in various levels. In economy, the two sides will expand mutual-beneficial cooperation to achieve common development.

China is especially willing to enhance cooperation with the Republic of the Congo in agriculture, mining, petroleum, telecommunications and infrastructure construction, Hu stressed, noting that capable Chinese companies are encouraged to invest in the Republic of the Congo.

China and the Republic of the Congo also should expand cooperation in culture, education, health and human resources, and should further strengthen coordination and consultations in international affairs, so as to jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries, Hu added.

As to China-Africa cooperation, Hu said China always attaches importance to the solidarity and cooperation with African nations.

China will make full use of the mechanism of the China-Africa cooperation forum to further promote pragmatic cooperation with African nations and to contribute more to the development of a new type of China-Africa partnership.

In response, Sassou said he fully agrees with Hu's proposals on enhancing bilateral ties. He said the Republic of the Congo welcomes Chinese companies to participate in its economic construction and improve cooperation in transportation, telecommunications, and natural resources.

He said the Republic of the Congo and China share similar stances in key international issues, hoping that with the upcoming Beijing summit of the China-Africa cooperation forum in next year, the cooperation between African nations and China will step into anew phase.

Sassou arrived in Beijing Monday morning for a five-day state visit to China at the invitation of President Hu.
