Japan should look squarely at history, FM spokesman
font size

Japan should look squarely at history and educate its people with correct conception of history, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in Beijing Tuesday.

Qin made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a question concerning Japanese side to study Chinese history textbooks.

Qin said it was the responsibility of any government to educate its people, especially the youngsters, with correct conception of history.

He noted that some Japanese are always "fastidious" about Chinese history textbooks.

This means they lack a correct understanding of history and are unwilling to face up to the truth of history, Qin said.

The international community holds that the war started by Japanese militarists in the 1930s and 1940s had caused tremendous sufferings to Asian countries. So Japan should keep its promise of looking squarely at history and respecting the feelings of people in war-ravaged countries.
