An award presentation for the outstanding businesswomen of the world will be hosted by Thailand early next year, and Thai businesswomen are encouraged to contest the award.

Thailand is the first Asian nation to host the award, known as "The Premier Global Event Honoring the World's Top Women in Business," the official Thai News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The event is scheduled to take place on March 19-23, 2006 in Bangkok. Many famous women in business careers from around the globe are expected to attend the event, sharing experiences and networking, as well as expanding relationships among themselves.

To share the pride to host such an event, Nutthika Wathanawekin Ung-ubolkul, chairwoman of the award presentation committee, has encouraged successful Thai women to compete for the honor of being named "outstanding businesswoman of the Year 2006".

According to the committee, the nominees are required to have their own businesses, hold at least 50 percent stake in their businesses, or run non-profit businesses. And for developing countries, nominees can be persons who run businesses with not less than 300 staff and having total sales of at least 5 million US dollars.

More importantly, businesswomen nominated for the award should be widely recognized by their fellow business staff and occupy significant roles in social activities for charity, it said.
