The Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation should be considered from a broader perspective so as to boost the development of the Pan-Pearl River Delta and the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang said on Wednesday.
Co-chairing the Eighth Plenary of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference with Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua for the first time, Tsang said lawmakers' Pearl River Delta tour is successful as it has enhanced exchanges and understanding between legislators and Chinese mainland authorities.
He noted the Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation should not be confined to issues relating to the two cities' interests. It should be considered from a higher and broader perspective so as to promote development in the Pan-Pearl River Delta and the Chinese mainland, he added.
He believed this will open more opportunities for co-operation and the strengthened ties will bear more fruit.
The joint conference, held in Hong Kong, will discuss cooperation issues covering infrastructure, food safety, environmental projection and immigration. Tsang and Huang will meet the press after the meeting.
The annual Hong Kong-Guangdong cooperation joint conference began to be held since 1998 and it has been an important platform for enhancing the cooperation and exchanges between Hong Kong and neighboring Guangdong Province.
