CPPCC chairman meets Tanzanian defense commander

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met Wednesday with George Waitara, commander of the People's Defense Forces of Tanzania, and his party.

Jia said China and Tanzania have enjoyed traditional friendship, and the two countries have maintained sound cooperation in the political, economic and military fields.

Effort to further increase Sino-Tanzania relations is in conformity with the fundamental interests of the people of both countries, and is conducive to world peace, stability and development, he said.

China is thankful to Tanzania for its adherence of the one-China policy.

Waitara said the Tanzania government and military attach importance to relations with China, and hopes to enhance the friendly exchanges and cooperation through his current China trip.

He expressed gratitude for the assistance of China, and reaffirmed Tanzania's support for the one-China policy.
