Chinese leader Luo Gan on Wednesday visited PLA officers, soldiers, policemen and workers in Urumqi in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to convey the central government's best regards to them on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the region's founding.
In the past 50 years, Xinjiang has scored remarkable achievements, which is partly due to efforts of the Xinjiang Construction Corps (XCC), policemen, armed police and local armies, said Luo Gan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, when visiting Urumqi, capital city of Xinjiang.
The first twenty years of this century is an important strategic time for China's as well as Xinjiang's development, he said, demanding the XCC to continue to play the role of facilitating Xinjiang's productivity, ecological environment and social harmony.
He urged local policemen, armed police and army soldiers to continue to fight against illegal practices or crimes to create a safe social environment and improve their anti-terrorism capability to safeguard China's northwestern border.
He also visited workers of a local refinery of China Petroleum to extend his greetings.
Luo is heading a delegation of Chinese central authorities to Xinjiang for the celebrations.
Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu and vice-chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee Ismail Amat also expressed their festival greetings to these people.
