font size

A US soldier was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle in southern Iraq on Wednesday, the US military said.

The attack happened when they were patrolling an area near Safwan, close to Iraq's border with Kuwait, the military said in a statement.

In a separate statement, the military said a marine from the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, died of wounds sustained in nonhostile gunshots near Fallujah on Monday.

The names of the killed soldiers were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it said.

Over 1,910 US servicemen have been killed in Iraq since the US- led invasion in March 2003.
