Chung Jung-kung, deputy executive officer of the Taiwan-based Kuomintang Central Policy Coordination Committee, hailed the maintaind's decision to extend the stay of Taiwan journalists in the mainland from one month to three months, Chung was quoted by Taiwan media.
Chuang said the decision made by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Wednesday was a boost to the consensus reached between the CPC and KMT.
Considering the decision in April of the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to prohibit mainland's Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily journalists from reporting in the island, Taiwan should not go backward in terms of cross-Straits media exchanges, he said.
On March 30, Chen Yunlin, director of the mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office and KMT vice-chairman Chiang Pin-kung reached a 12-point consensus, which includes promoting the early realization of permanent station of journalists between mainland and Taiwan.
Other points such as promoting Taiwan product sales in the mainland and same tuition for both Taiwan and mainland students have been implemented in the past half year.
