Air France-KLM (AFK), the giant French-Dutch airline group, announced on Thursday its Air France unit would raise its fuel surcharge on tickets from Oct. 4.
Formerly known as Air France and changed its name to Air France- KLM following a merger with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in September 2004, the company is currently based in Paris, France.
From Oct. 4, the surcharge on long-haul flights will be raised by six euros (about 7.24 dollars), bringing the total long-haul surcharge to 44 euros per flight segment and by two euros to 12 euros on medium-range flights. Surcharge on domestic French flights will increase by one euro to eight euros, also from Oct. 4, the airline said.
These new surcharges would be canceled if oil prices fell below 55 dollars per barrel for 30 consecutive days, said Air France.
New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in November, closed at 66.35 dollars on Wednesday in the United States.
