Ugandan national chess team left for Germany on Thursday to play at an international tournament as preparations to strengthen the national team ahead of the 37th World Olympiad due next year in Italy, according to a report from local press on Friday.
The 11-people team travelled at an invitation initiated by outgoing German ambassador to Uganda Holger Seubert.
The team comprises of three officials from the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) and eight players.
While in Germany, the team will play at the Forchheim Open tournament and against lowly league sides including Sc Forchheim and Munich, which match the standard of the local teams.
The team will return on October 10 and immediately continue with qualification rounds for the Olympiad.
