An editorial to be published on Saturday's People's Daily hails the 56th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China and calls on people to further promote the country's prosperity.

The editorial says China has scored excellent achievements in economic, political, cultural and social affairs in the first five years of this century, or the Tenth Five-Year Plan period.

It says the achievements have proven "the superiority and immense vitality of the socialist system" and that reform and opening up is a right way to rejuvenate China and make Chinese nation prosperous.

It calls on the people to make further efforts to promote China's reform, opening up and socialist modernization drive.

"We firmly believe that with the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the unity and hard work of the Chinese nation, our motherland and people are bound to have a bright future," says the editorial.
