Beijing recorded a total foreign trade of 78.98 billion US dollars for the first eight months this year, up 34.1 percent on an annual basis, according to the municipal statistics bureau.
Of the total, export jumped by 61.5 percent to 19.82 billion US dollars and import grew by 26.9 percent to 59.17 billion US dollars.
State-owned enterprises (SOEs) of the city were the major source of imports and exports, while foreign-funded enterprises registered a marked growth in exports, the bureau said.
During the January-August period, the SOEs exported 12.03 billion US dollars worth of products, accounting for 60.7 percent of the total, and imported 48.65 billion US dollars worth of products, taking up 82.2 percent.
The foreign-funded enterprises exported 6.98 billion US dollars worth of products, up 63.4 percent year-on-year.
The export of electro-mechanical products and hi-tech products grew fast in the eight months, with that of electro-mechanical products up 61 percent to 9.24 billion US dollars and that of hi-tech products up 72.9 percent to 5.66 billion US dollars.
