Residents flee El Salvador volcanic blast
A volcano in western El Salvador erupted on Saturday, sending a column of ash 50,000 feet into the air and killing two farmers buried by chunks of earth and boiling water that tumbled down the slopes. Authorities ordered the evacuation of three communities in the shadow of the Ilamatepec volcano, which towers near Santa Ana, the country's second largest city, 40 miles from San Salvador, the capital.

Bomb blasts in Bali take heavy tolls
Three bomb blasts ripped through popular tourist areas on the famous Indonesian resort island of Bali on Saturday, killing 32 people including foreigners and wounding more than 100. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono condemned as terrorism the nearly simultaneous blasts, which come almost exactly three years after militants bombed two nightclubs in Bali, killing 202 people, mainly foreign tourists.

MIDI Modern Music Festival kicks off in Beijing
The band Ordnance Place stages performance on the opening day of 2005 MIDI Modern Music Festival in Haidian Park in Beijing, Oct.1,2005. The sixth MIDI Modern Music Festival was opened in Haidian Park in Beijing on Saturday, the first day of the 7-day-long National Day Holiday. Forty six bands of rock, punk, experimental music, electronic music bands would stage performance for the modern music fans during the four-day festival.
