font size

The anti-government guerrillas on Friday released over 150 abducted teachers in a western district of Nepal, local government office confirmed Saturday.

"On the condition that the teachers cooperate in guerrillas' so called peoples' war, the abducted teachers were released in Gorkhadistrict, some 150 km west of Kathmandu," District Administrative Office of Gorkha said in a press statement.

"The guerrillas also asked the teachers to donate 50 percent of the allowance of Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal, to them," the statement quoted one of the released teacher as saying.

The teachers were abducted on Wednesday when they were taking classes at several schools in Gorkha district and were held in a school at Darbung area of the district, the statement noted.

The guerrillas usually force the civilians, teachers and students to take part in their "ideological" programs and free them after a few days unharmed.
