About 7.3 million people will travel through Hong Kong check points during the National Day "Golden Week" and Chung Yeung holidays (around Oct. 1 to 11), up 19 percent from the same period last year, the government said Saturday.

According to a press release from the Hong Kong Immigration Department on Saturday, a total of 324,246 people departed through different check points on Sept. 30 for the National Day holiday, with over half through the Lo Wu Check Point.

About 21 percent left via Lok Ma Chau while 12.8 percent used the airport.

A total of 285,120 travelers entered the city on Friday and 47.6 percent through Lo Wu.

It is expected departures and arrivals will peak during Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Highest daily traffic is expected to reach 530,000 on Oct. 1.

The Immigration Department has added more than 250 staff members at various check points to ensure the smooth clearance of passengers.
