Two Australians win Nobel prize for medicine

Australian researchers Barry J. Marshall and J. Robin Warren have been awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in medicine for showing that bacterial infection, not stress, was to blame for painful ulcers in the stomach and intestine, the Nobel Assembly announced in Stockholm on Monday, October 3, 2005.

China coal mine explosion kills 34

Rescuers prepare to go into a coal mine to search for stranded miners in Hebi City, central China's Henan Province, in the early morning of October 3, 2005. A gas explosion occured at 4:45 a.m. Monday in the coal mine belonging to the Henan Hebi Coal (group) company, claiming 34 lives. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Flooded street in China's Fujian

Typhoon Longwang, which landed in Fujian Sunday night, left three people dead and affected the life of 2.46 million people.The traffic in urban area of Fuzhou was disrupted by the flood. The typhoon also forced several airports and highways in the province to close.

Chinese cultural festival in Washington
