From 12 a.m. Sunday to 12 a.m. Monday, road accidents left 68 dead in China, according to Monday's transportation report by the Ministry of Public Security.

The transportation department under the ministry received reports of 32 road accidents on the second and third day of the weak-long National Day holiday. Among them, four accidents killed at least five people each in the provinces of Jilin, Guizhou, Qinghai and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The Typhoon Longwang is still affecting traffic in southeast coastal regions, damaging highways and causing landslides. Some accidents were caused by excessive speed and fatigued or drunk driving, said the report.

A total of 44 people were killed in 31 road accidents from 12 a.m. Saturday to 12 a.m. Sunday, which were the first two days of the holiday.
