    Life in Yunnan's ancient village

    A local woman dries chilies in Hujie (Tiger Street) Village in Baohua County, the Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Nanjian, southwest China's Yunnan Province, Oct. 1, 2005. Located at Mount Wuliang, the village had been a key pass on the ancient Tea-Horse Trail. Well-preserved roads and 100-year-old dwelling houses are telling witnesses of the village's past prosperity. Villagers now mainly do farming and lead a tranquil life. Tea-Horse Trail (Chamagudao), the ancient trade route connecting Tibet, provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, had been the important path along which tea, horse and traditional Chinese medicine were transported and traded.
