A driver was killed when his tanker truck burst into flames near the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx, New York Tuesday, officials with the city fire department said.
The accident disrupted train service and shut down traffic on the highway in both directions. It is still unclear exactly what caused the tanker to catch fire, fire officials said.
Fire crews who extinguished the blaze found the driver of the truck dead inside the cabin.
The city transit officials said the No. 6 subway train has also been suspended in both directions in areas close to the fire scene.
Amtrak service is also suspended between Penn Station in Manhattan and New Haven, Connecticut.
The Metro North Railroad is honoring Amtrak tickets for passengers wishing to travel between New York's Grand Central Terminal and New Haven.
