Chongqing, the youngest municipality in China, reported 1.3 percent rise in urban consumer price in the first eight months of this year, the municipal bureau of statistics said in a press release.
It said price hikes in entertainment, education and cultural products and services (7.2 percent), medicine and healthcare (4 percent) as well as housing (3.4 percent) were the major factors that drove up the general consumer price in the eight-month period.
Prices for cigarettes and alcohol, food, household appliances and repair services rose slightly by 1.3 percent, 0.6 percent and 0.3 percent respectively.
Prices of clothing and communication, however, continued to fall by 11.3 percent and 0.4 percent respectively year-on-year.
The average price of raw materials, fuel and power consumed by industrial enterprises climbed by 7.6 percent year-on-year, but dropped 0.5 percent over July.
