Chongqing residents post double-digit income rise

The per capita disposable income of urban residents in Chongqing municipality, in southwest China, averaged 6,897 yuan (850 US dollars) in the first eight months of this year, up 11.3 percent over 2004, the municipal bureau of statistics said.

Per capita spending on consumer products by urban dwellers in the eight-month period averaged 5,516 yuan (680 US dollars), up 7.9 percent year-on-year, it said.

Spending on household appliances, medicine and healthcare services, education and entertainment activities all maintained two-digit growth, while the per capita expenditure on housing was down by 5.3 percent, the bureau said in a press release.
